1. Check out our Project Map. June 1, 2008 marked our first anniversary as Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York, and we planned something BIG! Girl Scouts across Northeastern New York worked together to plan meaningful service projects within their communities. While the planning was done on a community level, the actual completion of all projects throughout Northeastern New York occured on one weekend: May 30 – June 1, 2008. This event weekend was named Mission Possible in celebration of all the possibilities available to girls, adults and communities when they work together. One service project completed by a single girl or troop can make a difference, and just imagine the impact that was made when over 14,000 girls simultaneously “gave back” to their communities across 16 counties!
Community service is a big part of who we are as Girl Scouts. Service projects are one activity that people outside of the Girl Scouting community recognize as being an integral part of our program. Through service projects, girls gain valuable life skills while learning the importance of helping others. They also get the satisfaction of knowing they can have an impact, and they can do something big! If you are a Girl Scout member or volunteer who would like to get involved, please contact your Service Unit Manager or call us at 518-489-8110 and ask for your county’s Community Relations Specialist.
